Piedmont Environmental Alliance will publish a suite of digital content to celebrate Earth Day

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – APRIL 7, 2020. Piedmont Environmental Alliance (PEA) has announced that the Piedmont Earth Day Fair, the region’s largest Earth Day celebration, will not take place at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds this year amid concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak. The Winston-Salem based non-profit is hosting this year’s fair online, with an innovative suite of virtual programs, information, and activities to educate and inspire action on environmental issues.

PEA’s Virtual Piedmont Earth Day Fair will include a line-up of digital programming that will be family friendly and FREE to members of the community. All month, PEA will publish earth-friendly blogs, videos, kids activities, and more to address urgent environmental issues, educate and empower learners of all ages, and mobilize the community toward action and celebration this Earth Day. This digital content will culminate with a Virtual Earth Day Fair week starting on April 20, featuring daily webinars, Facebook LIVE videos, virtual field trips, kids activities, a digital student art exhibit, online musical performances by local artists, and more.

“For 15 years, Piedmont Earth Day Fair has been a place where community members join together to learn about environmental topics, share their commitment to sustainability, and take action to protect our planet. This year’s Virtual Earth Day Fair will continue this tradition by providing valuable information and activities, while keeping our community safe inside their homes,” said PEA Executive Director, Jamie Maier.

Many of the programs planned for the fair will now take place online, including the Earth Day Fair Art Contest for students, how-to demonstrations on topics ranging from DIY cleaning products to how to start a veggie garden, science experiment demonstrations for kids, musical performances by members of the North Carolina Songwriters Co-Op, and so much more.

Community members can visit https://www.peanc.org/winston-salem-earth-day-fair for the full virtual line up. Follow Piedmont Environmental Alliance on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @peancorg for Virtual Earth Day Fair updates and content.

Piedmont Environmental Alliance (PEA) is making the region a model of environmental sustainability by building a community of stewards and advocates. Established in 2005 with the first annual Piedmont Earth Day Fair, the organization brings people, businesses, and government together to discover, learn about, and practice environmental stewardship. In 2015, we launched new youth education programs to engage kids and teens in environmental issues. Today, PEA reaches 10,000 people annually at the Earth Day Fair and directly engages with more than 4,000 students annually in Forsyth County through our education programs. PEA helps kids, families, schools, businesses, and government agencies discover and explore the environment and become the change-makers who will solve the challenges of the future.
