[Winston-Salem, NC] – Peyton Smith, Executive Chef and Owner of Mission Pizza Napoletana, is among 28 “Master Pizzaioli” to be featured at the first national New York Pizza Festival, Oct. 6-7, 2018. These pizzaioli were hand selected to participate by Pete Lachapelle, Editor-In-Chief of Pizza Today Magazine, creator and organizer of The International Pizza Expo and the Pizza and Pasta Northeast shows, and Scott Wiener, founder of Scott’s Pizza Tours.
This inaugural two-day festival brings together chefs from around the US and Italy in addition to Smith – including 12-time World Pizza Champion Tony Gemignani of Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco, Jonathan Goldsmith of Spacca Napoli in Chicago and Gino Sorbillo of Sorbillo Pizzeria in NYC and Naples – to celebrate their different styles of pizza. At the festival, Smith will prepare his wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, recently named the best in North Carolina by the Charlotte Observer and “hands down… the best pizza outside Italy.” He will be the only chef at the festival representing North Carolina – fitting, given Smith was the first to open a classic, authentic Neapolitan pizzeria in the state, in his hometown of Winston-Salem in 2014.

On Sun., Oct. 14, Smith will collaborate with peers in North Carolina as he hosts Chef Harrison Littell, former Executive Chef at The Honey Pot in Winston-Salem, for the first in a series of Sunday Suppers. The family-style dinner will include four courses – antipasti, primi, secondi and dolce – and offer an opportunity for more adventurous Italian dishes, such as Pappardelle al Cinghiale. On Sat., Oct. 20, Peyton Smith will be the only pizzeria featured at the 9th annual TerraVita Food & Drink Festival in Chapel Hill, NC.
