[Winston-Salem, NC] – Peyton Smith, Executive Chef and Owner of Mission Pizza Napoletana, is among 28 “Master Pizzaioli” to be featured at the first national New York Pizza Festival, Oct. 6-7, 2018. These pizzaioli were hand selected to participate by Pete Lachapelle, Editor-In-Chief of Pizza Today Magazine, creator and organizer of The International Pizza Expo and the Pizza and Pasta Northeast shows, and Scott Wiener, founder of Scott’s Pizza Tours.

This inaugural two-day festival brings together chefs from around the US and Italy in addition to Smith – including  12-time World Pizza Champion Tony Gemignani of Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco, Jonathan Goldsmith of Spacca Napoli in Chicago and Gino Sorbillo of Sorbillo Pizzeria in NYC and Naples – to celebrate their different styles of pizza. At the festival, Smith will prepare his wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, recently named the best in North Carolina by the Charlotte Observer and “hands down… the best pizza outside Italy.” He will be the only chef at the festival representing North Carolina – fitting, given Smith was the first to open a classic, authentic Neapolitan pizzeria in the state, in his hometown of Winston-Salem in 2014.

The NYC Pizza Festival will be in the historic “Little Italy of the Bronx”. For more information on the NYC Pizza Festival, or to buy tickets, visit https://nycpizzafestival.com/

Other Mission Pizza Napolentana Happenings…

On Sun., Oct. 14, Smith will collaborate with peers in North Carolina as he hosts Chef Harrison Littell, former Executive Chef at The Honey Pot in Winston-Salem, for the first in a series of Sunday Suppers. The family-style dinner will include four courses – antipasti, primi, secondi and dolce – and offer an opportunity for more adventurous Italian dishes, such as Pappardelle al Cinghiale. There will be two limited seatings, at 5pm and 7pm; $50 tickets (beer and wine available for purchase) are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sunday-supper-at-mission-pizza-napoletana-tickets-50377400160?aff=eac2.

On Sat., Oct. 20, Peyton Smith will be the only pizzeria featured at the 9th annual TerraVita Food & Drink Festival in Chapel Hill, NC. Smith will fire up his mobile pizza oven to serve his signature Neapolitan pizzas featuring local cheese, salumi, and vegetables. About Peyton Smith

Peyton Smith – the pioneer of Neapolitan pizza in North Carolina – opened Mission Pizza Napoletana in 2014, after serving pizzas from a mobile wood-fired oven for four years. Smith’s mission was certain: to bring one of the world’s great culinary traditions to his hometown of Winston-Salem, NC, where he honors the centuries-old tradition of pizza makers in the birthplace of pizza – Naples, Italy. Peyton Smith has been highlighted locally and nationally, and is among the nation’s most well-known pizza bakers headlining the first annual New York Pizza Festival taking place October 2018.

About Mission Pizza Napoletana

As North Carolina’s first Neapolitan pizzeria, Mission Pizza Napoletana is a leader in the region, nationally recognized as a destination for pizza. Baked in a handmade Stefano Ferrara wood-fired oven at 900 degrees, the pizza is soft and light, yet crisp, and topped with fresh, local and artisanal ingredients. Smith embraces both traditional and modern methods, insists on using the best ingredients, and is committed to quality. Mission Pizza Napoletana is not a simple pizzeria; it is also a proper osteria, serving a full menu of Italian-inspired pastas, salads, vegetables, as well as local craft beers and Italian wines from small producers. Mission Pizza Napoletana is located at 707 Trade St NW, in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. Serving dinner Tuesday through Thursday from 5pm to 9pm, lunch Friday and Saturday from 11:30am to 2pm, and dinner Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 10pm.
