The Lang Lang International Music Foundation received dozens of applications from teachers across the US, and after the careful consideration of their independent review committee, they are proud to honor Mr. Davis Cahill of Jefferson Elementary School, in Guilford County, North Carolina as the first Keys of Inspiration Music Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Cahill has been teaching in the schools Keys of Inspiration program for five years, and in that time has developed and led a two-week summer program that was developed through the Guilford County Summer Arts Institute; provided private after-school piano lessons for students (plus one adult guitar student!); and established a safe, creative space in his classroom where he teaches community, empathy, and critical thinking.

The Lang Lang International Music Foundation® believes that at the root of every strong music program is a dedicated teacher who inspires creativity and joy in their students. That’s why this year, they launched the Keys of Inspiration® Music Teacher of the Year Award, which recognizes the achievements, creativity, and excellence of Keys of Inspiration® teachers across the world.

Mr. Cahill will be honored at the Lang Lang & Friends Gala Concert Dinner in New York City on September 21, at Cipriani Broadway. During which, He will meet Lang Lang, receive a $5,000 prize, a certificate, and recognition on the LLIMF website. In addition to his attendance and recognition at the LLIMF Gala, he will also lead a workshop on Friday, September 23, for the LLIMF Young Scholars titled “Servant-Leadership and Passing the Torch.” This workshop will explore what, why, and how the Young Scholars can contribute to our next generation of people, and it will give them advice and actions they can use as they perform and teach.
