Stag Unassisted performance by Taryn Packheiser in the 2011 Greensboro Fringe Festival

Taryn Packheiser's one woman show consists of mixed genres of choreography, performance art, and video installation alongside an eclectic blend of music which facilitates a query into the manifold modalities of surviving in a world alone. Ranging from mainstream to avant-garde, with an emphasis on human relationships and nostalgic desires, this "solo of solos" diversely reflects on the nature of being Stag Unassisted. Packheiser describes the show as "Choreographic research on the nature of oneness (with diet cola)."

Stag Unassisted is a solo dance, performance art, screen dance production that puts the work of Taryn Packheiser all in one accessible place within the duration of one hour. Through interconnected vignettes of choreography that span the past 13 years of Taryn's career one can get a sense of the training and range of mixed genre that she has been both interested in and produced in her time since finishing her formal education at UNCSA and CU Boulder.

The performance includes pieces choreographed to Mozart and Strauss, musical works donated to the choreographer from musician friends, and audio created, manipulated (and sometimes rapped) by the dancer herself.

Additional multimedia components include video pieces in between, and in conjunction with, the live performance. The videos highlight work that has been screened at film festivals across the United States (most notably the San Souci Festival of Dance Cinema in Boulder, CO and Pixilerations produced by FirstWorks in Providence, RI).

The performances will take place Thursday, January 27th at 6pm, Friday, January 28th at 8pm, and Saturday, January 29th at 2pm in the City Arts Studio Theater in Downtown Greensboro's Cultural Arts Center at 200 North Davie Street. Tickets are $10 and available at the door 30 minutes prior to each show.

Whimsical Artist Scott Plaster's Cosmic Cow

Whimsical Artists Manifesto, Part 1:

The Whimsical Artist's Subject Matter

What makes a "whimsical" artist a whimsical artist? I started terming my subjects "whimsical animals" long before I really knew what the term "whimsical" encompassed. I think many aspects about an artist's work can make it whimsical, but perhaps one of the most important is not the style, but the subject matter.

Take the first whimsical animal I painted, the Cosmic Cow. I've seen lots of paintings of cows, and not all of them are whimsical. Many whimsical artists DO paint a variety of animals and other wildlife. What makes the Cosmic Cow whimsical? To me, a cow is not a typical subject, one that is not usually the center of attention, and when barnyard or farm scenes are painted, they usually do not have the animal standing at attention looking directly at the viewer. So, in this case, a cow is definitely a "whimsical" subject.

I suppose most animals can be considered whimsical subjects. I've seen other whimsical artists choose mainly the friendly and fun animals like birds, domesticated house cats, bugs, and other animals you might see in children's stories. So far, I've painted the cow, a sheep, an alley cat and a house cat, a pelican, a rooster, a duck, a tiger, and a meerkat. I'm working on an owl as we speak, and I also have another duck, a white ibis, and some other creatures in the works.

What I think all of these subjects have in common is that they all have "character." Whimsical, by definition means fun and unusual, lighthearted, and unique. I seem to be drawn to birds! But why whimsical animals? Some whimsical artists paint people, while other whimsical artists paint landscapes. To me, it is easier for me to portray an animal's whimsical nature, than it is for me to paint a whimsical landscape. Believe me, I've tried, but I am just not as connected in the same way as I am to my animals.

What do you think? What are the best subjects for whimsical artists?

You can see my complete menagerie at my website at http://scottplaster.com. Just go to my cards or prints page. Better yet, try a whimsical artist puzzles or an online whimsical art greeting card!

I will continue this series by discussing other elements you might find in whimsical art, and what I see myself implementing as a whimsical artist.

<![CDATA[Whimsical Artists? What is a Whimsical Artist?]]>
Whimsical Artists? What is a Whimsical Artist? Whimsical Artist? What makes Scott Plaster a whimsical artist? The term "whimsical artist" has been around for a while, and it is often used in differnet contexts. Some whimsical artists create images using child-like characters resembling cartoons. Other whimsical artists might create surreal "fantasyscapes" or other-wordly images. Scott Plaster's "whimsical animals" are different, but he still likes to call himself a whimsical artist. His whimsical animals are not cartoon-like, but they have a unique blend of realism and the whimsical, surreal quality that other whimsical artists capture in their work. Whimsical artists might not always agree on what the term means. What do you think? Check out my whimsical artwork at my website or send a whimsical online greeting card. --Scott]]>

<![CDATA[Make debt more manageable by seeking debt consolidation help]]>

Have you incurred more than £15000 of unsecured credit card debts in UK? If answered yes, you need not worry as there are thousands of Brits who are up to their eyeballs in debt. There are many options when it comes to making debt more manageable but debt consolidation has been unanimously acknowledged as the best option for treating unsecured debts. The IVA or the Individual Voluntary Agreement can be another option of settling your credit card debts but you can’t avoid hurting your credit score if you choose this option. On the other hand, debt consolidation will make your credit score shine. There are more than one benefits of consolidating your unsecured debts. Have a look at some of them.

Lowers interest rate than all your unsecured debts

The biggest problem most credit card users face in the outrageously high interest rates on your multiple credit cards. To knock down this problem, you can get a debt consolidation loan from a debt consolidation company. The loan will help you consolidate your entire credit card debt accounts and use it to pay off all your financial obligations. The loan will carry lower interest rates and therefore your monthly payments will also be reduced helping you keep aside a lump sum amount of money at the end of each month.

Easier to manage as there are no multiple outgoing payments

As you take out a debt consolidation loan, your debt will become manageable as you no longer have to pay multiple outgoing payments. Only a single monthly payment towards the debt consolidation loan company will be enough to make you debt free within a specific period of time. These payments will be accumulated in a trusted account and it will be disbursed off to your creditors with time.

No more hassle from creditor calls

If you have fallen back on your monthly payments of your multiple creditors, it is most likely that your accounts have been turned down to collection agencies. The collection agents can turn your life to hell by calling you at any point of the day asking for money. However, if you plan to consolidate all your debts, you’ll be able to relieve yourself of the stress of harassing and annoying creditor calls and lead a tension-free life.

You can rebuild your credit rating once again

Unlike the adverse effects of the other debt relief options on your credit score, debt consolidation will make your credit score shine. The initial hit that your credit rating went through due to late payments will be adjusted again as you start making regular monthly payments through the debt consolidation company. An improved credit score will also open up more options for receiving new lines of credit in future.

Therefore, if you’re struggling with your existing debt burden, a debt consolidation loan would perhaps be the best option for you. It will enable you to take back the control over your personal finances by consolidating the multiple payments into one. Before choosing a particular company, don’t forget to check the authenticity of that company so that you do not fall prey to scams and unscrupulous practices of the creditors.

<![CDATA[Artist Scott Plaster Featured In Mountain Times...]]>
I've been featured in an article in the Mountain Times in Watauga County, and the article appears online! "Scott Plaster started painting as a very young boy, using tempura paints and cheap ox-hair brushes to color in the Picasso-esque figures his dad drew on manilla drawing paper. It wasn't long until by age 10 he was oil painting on his own easel in his parent's basement, using the recipes in an adult-level book to mix his own painting mediums. Nearly 30 years later, Plaster is now exhibiting and selling his work in galleries across North Carolina. "There was a time when I had no idea how to get a gallery to even look at my work, and now it has been difficult keeping galleries and shops stocked with my paintings and prints," Plaster said... READ MORE...."
I hope you take the time to READ the ARTICLE.

<![CDATA[“Wow- I thought you two were Newlyweds!”]]> “Wow- I thought you two were Newlyweds!” How often do you and your mate hear this? If you’re like most of us, probably not very often, (unless you are, of course, newly wed). But what would it be like to have that ‘spark’ again? Why is it so easy to recognize newlyweds, anyway? What is it about them that says, “We haven’t been together all that long?” Is it the goofy way they look at each other? The gleam in their eyes? The way they’re always touching, holding hands, even kissing? I’ve heard it described by us old-timers as irritating or even disgusting. But I wonder how much of the irritation comes from just a little bit of envy? How many of us wish we could set aside the years of baggage and reclaim that feeling of easy intimacy? In our Sacred Relationships workshop, Sam talks about approaching your partner with a ‘Beginner’s Mind’; he describes it as a technique to increase physical intimacy. But how about using this approach in a more general way in your relationship? Can you remember what it was like when you two were first falling in love? Everything about your partner was beautiful and new, and you were sublimely happy as long as you were together, constantly looking for ways to tell your mate ‘I love you’. People looked at YOU with envy, right? When Sam and I are in ‘that space,’ you know, those times when we feel really close and in sync, people do ask us how long we’ve been together and seem surprised when we tell them how many years. We act like giddy teenagers, laughing at private jokes, sighing and gazing in each others’ eyes— disgusting, yeah, I know. But unfortunately that intimacy can easily be overshadowed by the mundane world~ bills to be paid, crazy bosses, mothers-in-law, the (thankfully rare) disagreement. That’s why it’s so important to circle back, to come together frequently to a safe and sacred space devoted to us, so we can find that newness again. Weekly date nights can help with this, even if it’s just sitting on pillows on the living room floor feeding each other takeout Chinese. (Click here for more ‘newlywed’ date night ideas) For a kicked-up boost to your intimacy, escape for a weekend every now and then; try going somewhere out of the way, without mundane distractions. The goal is to spend that time getting to know your partner again. Find a bed and breakfast in the mountains, or go camping if you are low on funds (or if you’re like us and actually enjoy being in a tent during a thunderstorm J). If you must go where there’s ‘something to do,’ choose an activity that neither of you have done before, a great way to incorporate that sense of newness. What did you used to do as newlyweds that you’d like incorporate back into your relationship? If your partnership is new, what suggestions do you have to help keep that ‘newness’ alive? I’d love to hear your ideas (oooh, and keep it PG please)! May people always assume you’re ‘Newlyweds,’ for years and years to come! In Sacred Love, Julie www.SacredRelationships.us]]> <![CDATA[Mexcian should apologize]]> The Mexican president should not have trashed this country from the whitehouse lawn. He should be ashamed of himself. I believe he is doing nothing more than to try and send all of the illegal immigrants he can to this country so he want have to deal with this troublesome element in his country anymore. He may also want to think about keeping his drugs out of our country too,but I bet the drugs lords more than likely pay him on the sly to keep the heat off of him.]]> <![CDATA[Greensboro NC Information]]>
