Forecast Music, the Piedmont Triad’s premier contemporary music group, proudly presents Carolina & Beyond: A melange of works from composers across our region, as well as visiting winners of the 2012 Forecast Music National Call for Scores. These works will be performed by some of the world’s finest performers, all living right here in the Piedmont Triad! The program will include pieces by Dan Locklair, Lance Hulme, Kathleen Pierson, Eric Schwartz, Leonard Mark Lewis, and call winners Kyong Mee Choi and Brian Baxter, all of whom will be in attendance and will introduce their works, and will feature performances by Jacqui Carrasco, James Douglass, Kris Keeton, Clara O'Brien, Tadeu Coelho, Susan Fancher, David Helms, and Louis Goldstein.

A concert of beautiful music in remembrance of a beautiful person, Mary D.B.T. Semans, the mother of UNCSA, who with her husband, James, brought UNCSA's musicians to Italy for many summers and who steadfastly supported and inspired our school from its inception 49 years ago. Under the direction of Chancellor John Mauceri, the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra, with support from the faculty of the School of Music and the participation of the Raleight Boys Choir under the direction of Robert Unger, performs Tchaikovsky’s last and greatest masterpiece, his Symphony No. 6, The Pathétique, followed by Mascagni's Intermezzo from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana, Respighi's Pini di Roma (The Pines of Rome) and Henry Mancini's arrangement of Morricone's Deborah's Theme from ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA.

The Old-Time Dance returns to Mount Airy on the first Saturday of the month all year except June. Musical hosts the Slate Mountain Ramblers take the stage at the Old-Time Music Heritage Hall at the EARLE Theatre for an evening of old-time dance favorites for all ages. Group tours are welcome.

Fronted by songwriter Steph Stewart and featuring veteran bluegrass musician Tim Stambaugh (formerly of the Shady Grove Band) and Omar Ruiz-Lopez on fiddle, Durham-based Steph Stewart & the Boyfriends is the perfect fusion of traditional Appalachia and top shelf Americana. Her ethereal twang feeds an audience, easing into the gut like honey, accented by hoppy banjo picking. Other songs—the more tragic, emotional ones—unleash a piercing moan that hits harder, like a cast iron pan dropped on the kitchen floor, throttling with a resounding pulse long after the music is over. Rooted in memories dancing to Johnny Cash with her grandfather as a kid in North Carolina, there is something quite unique yet satisfyingly familiar in Steph's music.
