The last Throes Reading Series presents Winston-Salem fiction writer Steve Mitchell, author of the Naming of Ghosts and creative non-fiction writer LaTasha Jones of Fayetteville, NC. Both will be reading selections from their latest works.

Katherine also recently won the Chowan Award for best poetry in North Carolina. Her most recent work is The Swing Girl: Poems. Jeff Davis, on top of being a poet, also host WordPlay, a show on Asheville FM and a podcast which every week features poets and writers of creative prose innperformance, and in conversation about their craft and ideas. Anthony Foxx is Mayor of the City of Charlotte. Following two terms on City Council as an At-Large Representative, Foxx became the youngest Mayor in the City’s history when he was elected in 2009. He was re-elected to a second term in 2011.nAs Mayor, Foxx has focused on strengthening Charlotte’s economy by establishing the City as an energy hub, developing a 21st Century infrastructure system to support the country’s fastest-growing urban area and creating an environment in which small businesses and entrepreneurs can thrive. To increase career opportunities for Charlotte’s young people, Foxx significantly expanded the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program, and to boost the City’s exports, he led an international trade delegation to China. To showcase the City on a global stage, Foxx led a bipartisan, citywide effort to bring the Democratic National Convention to Charlotte in 2012.nFoxx earned a law degree from New York University’s School of Law as a Root-Tilden Scholar, the University’s prestigious public service scholarship. In addition to working in the private practice of law, Foxx served as a law clerk for the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, a trial attorney for the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and staff counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary. He is the recipient of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Citizen Lawyer Award. Determine what items you want to sell. Think about whether you have any use for the items or if you think a friend or family member can use them. There is no point in selling a perfectly good object if you will have to go out and purchase a new item to replace it.nn2nRefurbish, clean or touch up the items as needed. Items that are in good shape will command a higher price than items that are dirty or have cosmetic defects. It is relatively easy and cheap to touch up an item with fresh paint or repair cracks or holes in an object with spackle, putty or wood glue. Investing the time and effort to refurbish the objects before they are sold will result in an easier sale and a higher selling price.nn3nTake pictures of the items with a digital camera. You should take at least four shots of each item from a number of different angles.nn4nOpen an account on Craigslist.org. Click the "my account" link on the left side of the page, select "Sign Up," enter your email address and choose a password. Opening an account on Craigslist will make it easier to manage your postings.nn5nOpen an account on eBay by selecting the "My eBay" link on the webpage. Click "Sign Up Now" and complete the online form to finalize your account.nn6nUpload the digital pictures that you took of the items, and post your items on Craigslist and eBay. On the Craigslist homepage, select the "post to classifieds" link on the left of the page, log into your account, and follow the posting instructions. For Montreal Classifieds, log into your account, select the "Sell" link, and follow the instructions. You can either select the "Buy Now" option, which will allow you to set a price that buyers can accept, or you can select the "Auction" option, which will allow buyers to bid on your item for a specified period of time. Note that you are obligated to sell your item to the winning bidder after an auction is complete, regardless of the bid amount.nn7nRespond to any emails that you receive from Craigslist or eBay shoppers regarding your posted items. Each posting should automatically contain a link to an anonymous email address that does not reveal your actual email address to the shoppers. For Craigslist, the potential buyers will likely want to come see the item before they purchase it.
