Award-winning performance space Triad Stage opens its season with Picnic, the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by William Inge that concerns a handsome drifter in small-town Kansas and a fateful Labor Day picnic. The show runs through Sept. 27, but tonight is as good a night as any to catch the action.

Dairi-O provides nostalgia, a tasty burger

The Dairi-O stands at the crossroads of Old Highway 52 and E. Dalton Road in King. It's small and unassuming, flashing back to the days of curb-service diners before chains like Sonic. Even though the restaurant now has a bigger, prettier sister store in Stanleyville, the original still stands proud as the largest tourist attraction in King.

After a month-long investigation Jon Palmieri, 32, was taken into custody by the Greensboro Police Department on Aug. 18 and charged with solicitation of a child by computer to commit an unlawful sex act. Palmieri communicated with what he believed to be a 14-year-old girl online for a month before setting up a meeting to engage in sex.

Winston-Salem police officers reported to call at the Shell station located on University Parkway in Winston-Salem at about 1 a.m. on Aug. 11. The suspect approached the cashier demanding money from the drawer. The cashier believes the suspect was armed but did not see the weapon.

Things I did this summer

Summer is all about the music for me. I love going to every amphitheater show I can squeeze into my schedule and out of my wallet. While this summer was not filled with as much music as I might have liked I did get the opportunity to see No Doubt, a band I have been listening to since middle school.
