Stag Unassisted performance by Taryn Packheiser in the 2011 Greensboro Fringe Festival

Taryn Packheiser's one woman show consists of mixed genres of choreography, performance art, and video installation alongside an eclectic blend of music which facilitates a query into the manifold modalities of surviving in a world alone. Ranging from mainstream to avant-garde, with an emphasis on human relationships and nostalgic desires, this "solo of solos" diversely reflects on the nature of being Stag Unassisted. Packheiser describes the show as "Choreographic research on the nature of oneness (with diet cola)."

Stag Unassisted is a solo dance, performance art, screen dance production that puts the work of Taryn Packheiser all in one accessible place within the duration of one hour. Through interconnected vignettes of choreography that span the past 13 years of Taryn's career one can get a sense of the training and range of mixed genre that she has been both interested in and produced in her time since finishing her formal education at UNCSA and CU Boulder.

The performance includes pieces choreographed to Mozart and Strauss, musical works donated to the choreographer from musician friends, and audio created, manipulated (and sometimes rapped) by the dancer herself.

Additional multimedia components include video pieces in between, and in conjunction with, the live performance. The videos highlight work that has been screened at film festivals across the United States (most notably the San Souci Festival of Dance Cinema in Boulder, CO and Pixilerations produced by FirstWorks in Providence, RI).

The performances will take place Thursday, January 27th at 6pm, Friday, January 28th at 8pm, and Saturday, January 29th at 2pm in the City Arts Studio Theater in Downtown Greensboro's Cultural Arts Center at 200 North Davie Street. Tickets are $10 and available at the door 30 minutes prior to each show.
