BUSTED

THE BEST AND WORST OF TRIAD AREA BLOTTERS

Two young black men wearing all-black clothing were said to have entered Red Mikes Grocery the Greensboro store where shopkeeper Mohammed Mike Ali was killed in November brandished handguns and demanded money at 6:18 p.m. on Jan. 12. They reportedly received cash, and fled eastward on Lindsay Street on foot.

BUSTED

On Jan. 11, Winston-Salem police officers responded to shooting call at 803 Utah Drive and arrived to find three victims Jose Luis Guzman, Valentin Francisco Organis, and Antonio Adolfo Hernandez. Guzman was transported to Baptist Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

Maria Rodriguez, a 37-yearold resident of Village Park Mobile Home Park, told Greensboro police that she was in her kitchen at 1:26 p.m. on the afternoon of Dec. 29 when two black males entered through a door that was propped open.

Greensboro police responded to a robbery call at the K-Mart located at 1302 Bridford Parkway on Dec. 23 after a female suspect allegedly threatened a store employee with a knife. The suspect was observed placing items into a bag and left the business when confronted by the employee, according to police reports.

On Dec. 19, the Greensboro Police Department announced it had recovered 33 bells out of a total of 48 stolen from the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. Police arrested Marion Corvona Jackson, 46, whose listed residence is the Beloved Community Center hospitality house on Arlington Street, and charged him with the theft of the bells.

An altercation between a 13-year-old boy and a 38-year-old man resulted in the shooting of the boys mother during a Dec. 9 incident in Winston-Salem. Police responded to a call of a shooting in the 4100 block of Morningside Drive at 6:39 p.m. They arrived on the scene to find Jawanna Yolanda Spease, 39, suffering from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

Abdou Illa, 37, seems to have been consorting with the wrong kind of female when he took her phone call at 4 a.m. on Sunday morning. The woman reportedly asked Illa to meet her at Chapel Watch Apartments in north Greensboro.

The Winston-Salem police have charged two male teenagers with armed robbery in connection with an Oct. 28 incident in which a female Wake Forest student was robbed at gunpoint at an off-campus apartment complex. Winston- Salem police also charged the two suspects with an Oct.

Officers patrolled the Westover Terrace area and stopped a vehicle entering the high school parking lot. Police subsequently discovered air-powered pistols, six knives and a sword inside the vehicle and arrested Shan Wayne Rogers II, 21, and charged him with possession of weapons on school property.

On Oct. 19, Winston-Salem police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the University BP Station. A clerk was reportedly confronted by Clarence Lamont Chandler, who was armed with a metal pipe. Chandler allegedly struck the clerk with the metal pipe iand demanded money, at which time the clerk ran from the business.

The suspect then asked to use Petersons cell phone before striking him in the face. Peterson told police he dropped the phone and attempted to recover it but was unable to do so before fleeing the scene. The driver of the pickup truck is described as a heavy-set black female with light-brown complexion, wearing glasses and a white T-shirt.

Brandon Lamar Byrd, a suspect in the July 16 murder of 27-year-old Donte Garner, turned himself in to Greensboro police last week. Garner was shot several times on Eugene Street and admitted to Cone Hospital in critical condition. He died from his wounds.

The perpetrators of a mugging outside Rush Fitness on Randleman Road in Greensboro made off with a cell phone and gym clothes in lieu of cash. The victims – a 42-year-old and a juvenile – were leaving the gym on Sept. 3 when two black teens armed with a gun approached them and demanded their money.

Winston-Salem police Cpl. JA Henry was working off duty in the downtown district at 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 29 when he loud banging noises. The sound was the result of 46-year-old Derrick Dejuan Broadway’s efforts to break in to a city parking meter, according to a police press release.
