Another 48 hours ... Greensboro film competition commences June 22

The theme of this year’s competition is “From Dream to Screen,” and this year a record 114 cities worldwide will be participating in the event. This event has grown in popularity over the years, and North Carolina is one of the few states to have two cities in the running: Greensboro and Asheville.

The Eye of the Storm brings Fred Schepisi to RiverRun Film Festival

It’s been too long — six years, to be precise — since filmmaker Fred Schepisi’s last project, and he’s not arguing. “Absolutely,” he said, “I agree with that!” He’s hardly been inactive during that time, but it was the screen version of Patrick White’s 1973 novel The Eye of the Storm.

Rasing the dead for Grateful fans on April 19 at Greensboro Theaters

The closest I ever came to seeing them perform live was at beautiful Veterans Stadium (ha!) in Philadelphia, but we only got as far as the parking lot. With no tickets in sight and drenched in rain (a “Box of Rain,” you might say), we returned home — but not before picking up a couple of sixpacks and some cheesesteaks.

Oscar night at Encore American Bistro, 2012 Jewish Film Festival opens

Funny business on tap for Greensboro Cinema and Film Appreciation Group

The group will meet every Monday night through Aug. 6 except April 9 and 16, and May 28. A half-hour “meet-and-greet” will take place at 6:30 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. screening time. After the film, audience members are encouraged to participate in an informal discussion regarding it.
