Death of the Hippo
The Hippo, a pocket-sized glossy magazine featuring an entertainment calendar, female models and short writing features, is throwing in the towel, its publisher, Allen McDavid confirmed. “It’s been a fun ride, but I decided it was time to focus on more profitable ventures,” he said in a recent e-mail. The publication was launched in March 2005, and expanded from Greensboro to Winston-Salem, Boone and Chapel Hill before it closing. McDavid said plans to put more time into producing the annual Texas Pete Twin City RibFest in Winston-Salem and a new partnership with the NC Department of Agriculture to produce its NC AgJam, along with publishing downtown guides for Greensboro and Winston- Salem. — JG
