Austin Carty — author
It’s possible you remember this week’s Page Three model, Austin Carty, as the shirtless ingnue from High Point in Season 12 of the CBS reality show “Survivor” — the one with Exile Island. But he’s since come back to the Furniture City to pick up his literary career. He self-published his first novel, Somewhere Beyond Here, in 2003. “It got me a literary agent,” he says. “I was trying to write in that Nicholas Sparks type vein, and somewhere along the line my writing took this weird evolution. I don’t write that way at all anymore.” He’s currently on tour promoting his new book of essays, High Points and Lows. “I wanted to write a book that from the outset was unabashedly Christian,” he says. “This book contains stories about some of the ugly things I’ve done in my life, and who I am as a person of faith.” The nationwide tour brings him back through North Carolina next week — look for details in upcoming issues of YES!
