Virginia chain purchases Littleton newspaper
Womack Publishing Co., a Virginia-based community newspaper chain, has signed an agreement to purchase the weekly Littleton Observer, a company press release announced. The company plans to purchase the Observer and merge it with the Lake Gaston Gazette, another weekly newspaper it owns, on New Year’s Eve. The two papers serve the Littleton and Lake Gaston areas in northeastern North Carolina. The first issue of the new Lake Gaston Gazette-Observer will be published on Jan. 6. Womack Publishing Co. owns 14 community newspapers in Virginia and North Carolina. The company is owned by Charles Womack Jr., the father of Charles A. Womack, who publishes YES! Weekly. —JG
