Murder suicide
Winston-Salem police responded to Ardmore Village on Dec. 4 after receiving a reported stabbing. Upon arrival officers found Allison Gaither, 30, lying in a neighbor’s backyard. EMS attempted to render aid to Gaither, but she was dead. After police investigated they decided that Cory Gaither, 32, was the prime suspect and had an All Points Bulletin put out on his vehicle. Authorities discovered the vehicle in northern Davidson County with a dead man later identified as Corey Gaither nearby. Police are investigating Corey Gaither’s death as a suicide. Allison Gaither’s is the 15 th homicide in Winston-Salem for 2009.
Peeping Tom
Greensboro police have arrested Reginald B. Douglas, 41, on charges of secret peeping, first-degree burglary, five counts of assault on a government official and resisting, delaying and obstructing justice. Police caught Douglas while he was attempting to break into a home occupied by two girls and a toddler at 1:45 a.m. on Nov. 29. This is Douglas’s second time being arrested for a similar offense; he was arrested and charged in 2002 for secret peeping on a residence occupied by two women. He is being held on a $250,000 bond in Guilford County Jail.
Hit and run
Winston-Salem police responded to a reported traffic accident on Dec. 5 at 4243 Indiana Ave. where they found that Ayan Upadhyay, 20, had been walking behind a late 1990s model Nissan or Infiniti SUV when the vehicle backed over him. Upadhyay is a student at Wake Forest University and is listed in serious condition.
Armed robbery
Winston-Salem police responded to the MicroTel Inn at 100 Capitol Lodging Court on Dec. 2 after receiving a report of armed robbery. The suspect was described as a black man wearing a black hoodie and dark jeans who displayed a handgun and demanded an undisclosed amount of money. After the man took the money and stole items from a MicroTel employee he fled on foot. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 336.727.2800.
Armed robbery
Winston-Salem police responded on Dec. 2 to the Emmanuel La Tienda Del Pueblo at 3122 Indiana Ave. where it was found that two Hispanic men had entered the store carrying a handgun and stolen money from the cash register and jewelry from an employee. The two men fled on foot and were last seen running toward 32nd Street. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 336.773.7700.
