Richard Pins and Johnny Hill

Internet celebrities

Richard “Big Head” Pina and Johnny “10-Gauge” Hill enjoyed much more than 15 minutes of fame after their turn in a Red House Furniture commercial that went viral in the internet back in March.

Crafted by the subversive internet marketing team of Rhett & Link, who were hired by a third party, the commercial stresses that the Red House, over in High Point, is “where black people and white people buy furniture.” Hill has been compared to Robert DeNiro, though he admits he doesn’t know who DeNiro is. And Pina still likes pumping iron and pumping furniture into people’s homes. But one thing has changed: When YES! Weekly Editor Brian Clarey visited the Red House in March, the YouTube video had garnered about 600,000 hits. Now it’s well over 1.8 million.
