Police chief: No ‘excessive force’ used in Rogers’ arrest Ray Rogers, founder and president of Corporate Campaign, has received a response to a complaint he filed against several Winston- Salem police officers after he was arrested for trespassing during the May 6 Reynolds American shareholder meeting. In a letter dated July 2, Winston-Salem Police Chief Scott Cunningham said his department’s internal investigation revealed the off-duty Winston- Salem police officers —who were employed by Reynolds American on May 6 — did not use excessive force in arresting Rogers.

After receiving Rogers’ complaint, Cunningham said investigators spoke with two witnesses, the police officers involved, and reviewed a videotape of the incident. The investigation concluded that the off-duty officers “operated within the
