DJ Profile
DJ Precise AKA Freddie Fontaine

Full name: Frederick Pippens

Origin of stage name: I chose DJ Precise years ago because I wanted a name or a word that I could cut up in a record. One of my favorite songs as a kid was “Rock the Bells” by LL Cool J, where he talks about a DJ and says the phrase “so precise with a slice that you know he’s greater.” So I started cutting up that phrase and decided to go with the name DJ Precise. The name “Freddie Fontaine” is kind of like an alter ego on my radio show on WNAA 90.1 FM. I play totally different set than what I play in the clubs. It’s smoother R&B, more soulful and less of the mainstream music you hear everyday. I wanted a totally different persona for that show. I decided to use Freddie from my real name and the “Fontaine” part I got from a character on the TV show “Martin.”

Got in the game: I first started playing around at age 15 in 1989. I officially became incorporated as a business in 1999.

What I play: Old and new hip hop, R&B, reggae, DC go-go, house, neo-soul, Top 40 or whatever is needed to rock the party.

Catch me at: Every Friday night at BG McGee’s and Saturdays at the Shriners Club

Upcoming shows: June 6 — White Party at Alexander Devereux, June 20 — Mardi Gras Party for Omega Psi Phi fraternity at the Empire Room in downtown Greensboro. Also currently working on becoming a contestant on DJ Clue’s “Who’s the DJ” Reality Show. My page there is www.djclue.tv/profile/DJPRECISEakaFRED DIEFONTAINE?xgs=1&xgi=cjpWF8w

First pro gig: I’d say my first paid gigs were in high school I was the DJ for all the area high school events in my hometown

Why I do it: I love music. I love the connection between a great DJ and a crowd. You can use music to celebrate or to relieve stress dancing it away all night at a club. I like the way music brings people together and as a DJ you get to see how effective it can be.

Influences: DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kid Capri, DJ Cash Money and Jam Master Jay to name a few

Favorite technique: I’m old school, so I love the transformer scratch made famous by Jazzy Jeff

Personal playlist: On my MP3 player right now I have Prince, Bob Marley, Eric Roberson, Dwele, Korn, Linkin Park, EWF, Daughtry, U2, Gorilla Zoe, Jeezy, Keri Hilson, Kanye West, Eminem and Snoop Dogg.

Favorite albums: Ludicris — Theater of the Mind, Little Brother — The Chillin’ Circuit, 2Pac — Me Against the World, Jay-Z and Linkin Park — Collision Course, Ryan Leslie — Ryan Leslie, Kanye West — Graduation

Equipment: Rane Serato DJ software, two Technics SL1210 turntables, Numark CDX CD turntables and the Numark DXM09 Mixer

The more comments and views I get for my video, the better. If you want to see a real DJ make it and show his stuff, check me out and feel free to leave comments, feedback, etc.

My name is Phyllis Chavis. I was hosting an event in Greensboro N. C. last May and need a DJ for music . Not knowing anyone in the area a staff from a rental center recommended DJ precise. We connected and I must say this is the most professional DJ I have ever worked with. We were blessed to secure him with such short notice. I do a lot of events and this guy really simplified my life in an immediate need for his service. I have never handed a DJ a program for an event and carry it out in the manner which he did. Very little need to go over the plan other than to review and allow hime to do his magic with the music and the appropriateness of the audience. He was attentive to everyone with his music and identified the right music for the setting with little instruction. DJ was so attentive untill he controlled the setting on the air conditioning of the venue. It appeared he was on his game attending to the confort of the guest and handling his music business. He managed the program well with no hiccups or flaws to the point where he kept me on track. I will keep in=touch with this guy and my next venue in north carolina with be contracted with precise. His work is incredible. Phyllis Chavis Akadoll6@aol.com
