The other side of the Friday night fork in the road is right here in Greensboro. Greene Street (greenestreetclub.com) will be hosting a show that sold out the last time it hit the Triad: All Time Low (alltimelow.com). This Maryland power pop-rock group recently did a track on the 2008 cover album Punk Goes Crunk for the track "Umbrella," which I'm sure they work into most of their sets to hype up the crowd. There's only a week or so left of their July headlining tour (the night before this, they will be at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh), before they have to join the rest of the campers on the VANS Warped Tour for the rest of the summer. Alongside these guys, Valencia (myspace.com/Valencia) will be hitting the stage that evening to give a sneak peak of their new album We All Need a Reason to Believe, which will be out on Columbia Records this August. Other bands opening this evening: Hit The Lights (myspace.com/hitthelights), and There For Tomorrow (therefortomorrow.com). I highly recommend getting your tickets (etix.com) ahead of time if you're planning on this show.
When else would you go to an all-day festival in the blazing heat of the Charlotte Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre but in the dead middle of July? The VANS Warped Tour (warpedtour.com) is Monday, and the sun won't be holding anyone back. Not only is this a chance to see so many touring bands from all over the globe at once, but so many genres of music appealing to the broad music demographic (limited up to age 28 though) like punk, pop-rock, indie-rock, hardcore, metal, you name it. Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Jack's Mannequin, Gym Class Heroes, Chiodos, the Devil Wears Prada, Forever the Sickest Kids, Reel Big Fish, Norma Jean, Say Anything, Angels and Airwaves and our own Greensboro pop-rock band that is out trucking it all summer with the Warped Tour, Farewell (myspace.com/farewell). The festival is set up with several stages, extensive line-ups and a schedule so packed that you must carefully plan out your day from open to close, so that you don't miss anything. Hint: You can't bring drinks, but why pay five bucks for water? Bring an EMPTY water bottle to fill at fountains - less to waste, less to pay (you can also do this at airports). Carpool with friends to save gas. Tickets are $23.50 (ticketmaster.com).
