Look... Cyril's first album was Danny Kay's "Two by Two" and he graduated straight from that to Deep Purple's "Made in Japan". Not an auspicious start. Luckily, while growing up in Honolulu, Hawai'i he happened to be listening to college radio and heard Muddy Waters singing "I'm a Man" - Muddy had a thing or two on Danny Kay as far as Cyril was concerned, and he decided to make an abrupt shift in artistic direction somewhat to the dismay of his Wagnerian loving mom and pop (they at least understood the importance of music being played at high volume). The rest just happened naturally. A shy kid, Cyril played his $17 guitar along to Muddy Mississippi Waters "Live" on his RCA hi-fi, taping more and more pennies on the needle to stop it from jumping all over the place.
