Lalenja Harrington Performer

When she first took the stage in Boston to perform a slam poetry piece she had written, Lalenja Harrington was petrified. Yet her performance received an incredible response, and through the experience she found her voice. After years of performing a capella and slam poetry, even anchoring the Boston slam team that went to nationals in 1994, Harrington branched out into community theater five years ago after her son was in a performance at Triad Stage.

Harrington scored the lead in Children of Eden, the first play she auditioned for. She has been involved with Twin City Stage and the Winston- Salem Theater Alliance, though she lives in Greensboro. Her favorite piece she’s been involved in is Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grille. Harrington’s sister is in the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and she wrote “Banjo Dreams” on their album Heritage. Now Harrington is looking to collaborate and explore multi-faceted pieces.
