HPE AXES COPY DESK

The High Point Enterprise has eliminated its copy desk, outsourcing the function to a sister newspaper in Kentucky, according to recent item in the Business Journal by reporter Owen Covington. The Business Journal reported that Sunday had been expected to be the last day of in-house copy editing, after the seven employees on the desk learned News and views from inside the media bubble their jobs would be eliminated two days after Christmas. The outsourcing of the copy editing function follows on the heels of the exact same move last year by the Durham Herald- Sun, which is also owned by Paxton Media Group. The Winston-Salem Journal eliminated its 17-member copy desk in 2010, outsourcing the function to Tampa, Fla. and Richmond, Va.
