Jada Drew

Jada Drew certainly has her hands full. She runs her own social justice consulting business, Social Designs; is a fellow with Green for All in her hometown of Rich Square; and works with the national White Privilege Conference. On top of it all, she holds down a day job as the Africana Community Coordinator at Guilford College. Over the years, Drew said her work at Guilford has expanded to include diversity trainings, more events and an experiential Afro-centric project with Dudley High School first years. Drew helped organize a series of events this week with Gullah Geechee Queen Quet, including a histo-musical lecture Wednesday, a conversation with the queen Thursday and a closing celebration Friday. “The Gullah Geechee have pretty much preserved their culture since the Trans-Atlantic slave trade,” Drew said. “It has affected our culture a lot… and people don’t really realize how important this is.” All of the events are at the college, except the Wednesday conversation, which will be at the 1700 Orchard St. at 5 p.m. The events are free but there is a $5 suggested donation. Find out more by calling Drew at 3636.316.2473 or visit www.socialdesignsbj.com.

Great article! One correction.. the Conversation with Queen Quet is Thursday at 5pm at Caldcleugh Multicultural Center.  Tonight, Wednesday, she will be doing a HISTO-MUSICAL Lecture at Guilford College in Bryan Jr. Auditorium. Hope to see the community at the events!
