AQUATIC CENTER LANDS NATIONAL YOUTH SWIM MEET
Slated to open in August, the Greensboro Aquatic Center has landed the 2012 YMCA National Short Course Swimming Championship, according to an announcement from the Greensboro Coliseum. The April 2-5, 2012 event is expected to draw more than 5,600 attendees, including about 1,600 swimmers, and generate more than $6.5 million in local economic activity (think restaurant meals, hotel beds and gas purchases). Swimmers from more than 200 Ys will compete for titles in 42 events in what is described as “traditionally the largest youth swimming national championship in the United States.”
