How I got it: Late night foolery with some old friends who were messing with my last name.
Real name: Jack Ernest Bonney
What I play: A bit of everything, but mainly funk, soul, jazz, reggae and world music.
Catch me at: I’m a frequent contributor to “Gate City Getdown.”
Upcoming shows: UNCG’s Earth Day Celebration April 21 at Foust Park, 11-2 p.m., and I’ve been DJing at the Greensboro Roller Derby bouts at Skate South in High Point. The next one is May 22.
Got in the game: Started collecting records in 1996, and started really DJing in 2000.
Why I do it: Being a vinyl junkie, I just keep collecting and I want to share these discoveries with others
Influences: Madlib and Prefuse 73
First pro gig: Calvert Hall High School Coffeehouse in 1998
Studio work: Been working at WUAG 103.1 FM since 1999
Favorite technique: Finding nice blends of outros and intros
Personal playlist: Lots of new college radio releases, along with any new vinyl discoveries. It’s always changing.
Favorite albums: Way too many to list, but some old reliables include most material by Curtis Mayfield, Van Morrison, Ahmad Jamal and always James Brown. But like I said, it changes almost daily.
My gear: Two Technics 1200s and any working mixer. Wax only, no digital manipulation
Website: www.wuag.net
I’d like to add: I’m always looking for records, so if you have any you want to get rid of please reach out!
