It didn’t take long for YES! Weekly’s new creative assistant, Jordan Owens, to make a good impression. Last week, Owens’ work was chosen as winner of the 2011 US Figure Skating Championship Poster Contest, held by the Greenhill Center. Her piece, “Skating Lady,” was selected from dozens of entries and 21 semi-finalists to be the poster for the event, which will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum Jan 22- 30. It depicts a skater in pose, wearing a medal and with a halo over her head.
“It’s a mixed-media piece,” she says. “Paint and ink and a little bit of collage, and then the medal is gold leaf.”
In addition to the honor, Owens takes home a $3,000 prize. In addition to her duties at YES! Weekly, she is also an accomplished fine artist with work hanging in galleries across the Triad. To see more of it, go to www.jordangrace.com.
