Lauren Kearns — Dancer & educator

Lauren Kearns has an impressive resume that spans beyond her current home at Elon University, where she is an associate professor and head of the Dance Department, as well as artistic director of the Kearns Dance Project. She also directs Kearns Yoga & Pilates, a somatic-based training program that provides private instruction and certification in yoga and Pilates. And sees “a huge source of movement vocabulary” between the disciplines of yoga and dance. Kearns reflects on her move to the Tarheel state, saying she “was really drawn to the progressive dance tradition in North Carolina. The richness of dance is really remarkable.” In 2008, she received the NC Dance Alliance Choreography Fellowship for artistic excellence, an annual honor to promote professionalism and dance legacy throughout the state. This fellowship helped her integrate multimedia into her dance productions, as well as further inform an promote the field of dance to future artists.
