Perfect for Halloween

The Halloween vibe will certainly be felt at the Carousel Luxury Cinemas (1305 Battleground Ave., Greensboro) this October, with writer/director Tom Six’s controversial shocker The Human Centipede showing this Friday and a couple of cultfriendly features opening the week after. A hot ticket at this year’s RiverRun International Film Festival in Winston- Salem, writer/director Michael Stephenson’s award-winning documentary Best Worst Movie examines the legacy (such as it is) of the 1990 shocker Troll 2, a film so (deservedly) reviled that it has developed a cult following among badmovie mavens around the world.

Stephenson, who played the young hero in Troll 2, brings a welcome, knowing humor to this treatise on cinematic schlock, as he interviews those who made the film, including director Claudio Fragasso and leading man George Hardy, to those who have embraced it as a guilty pleasure. Also opening that day is Nobuhiko Obayashi’s award-winning House (Hausu), a weird and wacky Japanese haunted-house movie from 1977 that, not unlike Troll 2 (although it’s a better movie, to be sure) has spawned a fervent cult following.

Best Worst Movie is scheduled to enjoy a week-long run at the theater, while House (Hausu) is scheduled to run only on Oct. 22. As a matter of fact, there’s a special screening of Troll 2 currently scheduled for Oct. 29. For advance tickets, showtimes or more information, call the theater at 336.230.1620 or check out the official website: www.carouselbattleground. com.
