by Eric Ginsburg
Though noise complaints come in from all over the city, the discussion about Greensboro’s noise ordinance — which is back on the agenda for the city council’s June 18 meeting — always seems to return to two downtown titans: Greene Street night club and developer Roy Carroll.

On Tuesday I finished up at the office in time to watch the last half of swim practice and drive the swimmer home. Wednesday, there was a school play and an awards ceremony — I managed to get there in time to watch my younger son, in the role of Abraham Lincoln, take his final bow.

High Point’s doughnut culture

by Brian Clarey
Sure enough, there’s a full barista menu at Granny’s Donuts, up on the wall among smoothies, frappes and pastries. But I quickly get the sense that this isn’t one of those hang-out-and-write coffee shops — just three small café tables along the window, all artwork supplied by product vendors.

Star-studded Now You See Me entertaining big-screen hocus pocus

by Mark Burger
delving too deeply into how a magic trick is done dampens its effect. Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco comprise the act known as the “Four Horseman.” Alone, each has some varying degree of success (or not) as a magician. Teamed up, they’re the toast of the Las Vegas Strip and beyond.
