Date: Saturday, September 6, 2008
Phone: 336.255.7488
Location: Earth Fare
Details:
On September 6th and 7th from 11:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m, HandyCapable Network will hold a computer donation drive at Earth Fare, located at 2965 Battleground Ave. Donations of old computers, monitors, and printers from both individuals and businesses are welcome, and the first 25 donors will receive a free Earth Fare tote bag! All of the computer equipment will be collected by the HandyCapable Network (HCN), a local nonprofit that refurbishes old computers and distributes them to needy children in Greensboro schools, families living in poverty, persons with disabilities, and other community organizations. HCN accepts computers purchased in 2003 or later, 17” monitors or greater, and printers in working condition, and all donations to HCN are tax-deductible. HCN’s refurbishing process is completed by individuals with disabilities, and includes a hard-drive sweep that removes any personal data from the machine. The organization depends on computer donations from the community for the computers that ultimately end up in the homes of families that could not otherwise afford them – and out of our local landfills. The mission of HandyCapable Network is to promote self-sufficiency and to enrich the lives of people living with disabilities, or people who are otherwise socially or economically challenged, by providing training in and access to computer technology. Since 2001, HandyCapable has placed nearly 2,000 refurbished machines back into the community. Earth Fare has partnered with HCN in the past, and has a strong record of supporting small local non-profits in our community.
