Winston-Salem State University student Derwin Montgomery unseated incumbent Joycelyn Johnson in Democratic primary on Sept. 15. With no Republican candidate on the ballot for the Nov. 3 general election, he will be the next representative of the East Ward on Winston-Salem City Council barring a successful write-in challenge.
