Leading off Found Objects this week is a local photography exhibit that coincides with the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. UNCG University Libraries has acquired the collection of awardwinning photographer and longtime art department faculty member Arnold Doren of the three-day music festival in upstate New York during the summer of 1969. Doren’s rare, black-and-white photos capture pop music icons like Jimi Hendrix and the “scene” that unfolded during the three days of Woodstock. The exhibit of 20 photographs is currently on display in the second floor main lobby outside the Hodges Reading Room in Jackson Library. The exhibit will remain up until Sept. 18. The university also acquired more than 70 boxes of Doren’s prints, slides and negatives of landscapes, still lifes, and portraits from China, Italy, Canada and the American Southwest, said university archivist Betty Carter. Doren, who passed away in 2003, was a faculty member at UNCG from 1978-2002.

On Monday, Twin City Stage will hold auditions for The Shadow Box by Michael Cristofer at the Arts Council Theatre,

located at 610 Coliseum Drive in Winston- Salem. Auditions will begin at 7 p.m. This is not a staged reading but a fully mounted production. Roles available include four women, four men and one boy (age 10-16). The play is directed by Norman Ussery and will hold performances Oct. 9-11. For photography buffs, there’s a great photo exhibit at New York Pizza on Tate Street near the UNCG campus. Come check out these amazing photos with a Roaring ’20s/Early 1930s theme by Joe Bemis. The photo shoot involved at least 30 people in Greensboro for both talent and crew. The Carolina Theatre continues its 2nd annual Summer Film Festival this week with another installment in its Coen Brothers Director Series. On Wednesday, a screening of No Country for Old Men will start at 7:30 p.m. Winner of four Oscars including Best Picture, No Country features riveting performances by Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones and Javier Bardem.

The film features Bardem playing Anton Chigurh, one of the best screen villains ever conceived. Bardem won an Academy Award for his performance. On Aug. 20, the film festival presents its next installment of Cult Classics with a screening of Terry Gilliam’s 1985 film, Brazil.
