Incumbent Evelyn Terry and challenger James Taylor were forced into a runoff when neither managed to clear more than 40 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary on Sept. 15. Terry led the balloting with 160 votes, compared to Taylor's 150. The runoff takes place Oct. 6.
As there is no Republican candidate, the victor will take the Southeast Ward seat barring a successful write-in candidacy.
