Welcome to the YES! Weekly Pop Quiz, where we ask politicians and public servants questions about their jobs. This week we deviate from custom — in honor of our back-to-school issue — with a quiz for UNCG students. The rules are simple: No research, no callbacks.
Q U E S T I O N S
- Can you name the two candidates for president?
- Are you registered to vote? Did you vote in the primary?
- Can you name one issue the candidates discussed this summer?
- What’s the most important issue for you this election?
Christine Edwards (junior, sociology)
- Obama and McCain
- Yes, I’m registered in Greensboro. I did vote in the primary.
- The war
- Taxes, since we’re in a recession and everything just keeps going up and up, I think it would be really important for them to work that out.
- McCain and Obama
- Yes and yes
- Oil prices?
- I don’t know yet. (X)
John Russell (freshman, music education)
- Barack Obama and John McCain
- I am registered in my hometown, but I’m about to switch to Greensboro. Yes.
- I haven’t really been keeping up. I know the war in Iraq is still an issue. (-)
- Probably education and the war
Christopher Smith: (freshman, political science)
- Barack Obama and John McCain
- Yes I am registered. No I didn’t vote in the primary. (-)
- There’s a lot: Taxation, oil prices, the war… just throw a dart and they’ve talked about it.
- I think they’re all equally important. The energy crisis is rising, although it isn’t as bad as what they think. The war is coming to a conclusion. I think Barack Obama is preaching political change, and I think that’s on a lot of people’s minds.
A N S W E R S
- Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz)
- We hope so
- Energy, offshore drilling, the war, immigration, etc.
- Whatever floats your vote
