Alarm thwarts fast food robbers
Two Burger King employees ran out the back door of the restaurant located at 510 N. Martin Luther King Drive in Winston-Salem and inadvertently foiled a robbery attempt on Sunday. Winston-Salem police responded to the armed robbery call just after 12 noon on Sunday. Upon arrival, witnesses said a man, age 24 to 30, 6 feet to 6-2 in height, wearing a long sleeve black shirt, Pittsburgh Pirates baseball cap and a black and white bandana covering his face entered the store, produced a handgun and demanded money. Two employees ran out of the back door of the business, triggering the alarm. The suspect then fled on foot without getting any money and ran east across Martin Luther King Drive.

Wal-Mart robber nabbed
A shoplifting incident turned ugly when Craig Lenair Rogers, 30, allegedly pulled a knife on a Wal-Mart security employee during a confrontation on June 2. Witnesses told Winston-Salem police officers that Rogers produced a lock blade knife to cut loose an item in the store and enabled him to escape on foot. Rogers was caught by police officers and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and trespassing.
Rogers was transported to the Forsyth County Jail and placed under $80,000 bond. No injuries were reported.
Gun to the chest
Chad H. Kilfoyle, 24, told Greensboro police he was robbed at gunpoint while waiting in the 2600 block of Yanceyville Street on June 2. Kilfoyle informed police officers that a black male suspect, 6 feet in height, dark complexion, wearing a long red T- shirt and a red bandana to cover his face walked up to him and placed a large caliber semi-automatic handgun to his chest and demanded he empty his pockets. Traffic fatality erica
Dawn Thoburn, 22, died from injuries received during a crash near the
intersection of us Highway 29 and Joe brown road in Greensboro on the
afternoon of June 2. according to police reports, Thoburn was driving a
1991 Toyota camry heading south on 29 when she swerved to miss another
vehicle. Thoburn overcorrected, causing her to cross the median and
head into oncoming traffic.
Thoburn’s camry collided with a
2005 chevrolet impala heading northbound on 29 that was driven by
brittany elaine mcadoo, 19. Thoburn was transported to moses cone
Hospital where she later died. Police reports did not indicate if
mcadoo suffered any injuries in the accident.
hit-and-run of apartment building
Winston-salem police responded to a motor vehicle crash call in the 7000 block of brandemere lane on June 6 after a silver car struck an apartment building,causing severe structural damage, and sped off. Officers arrived just after 11 p.m. to find extensive damage to two apartments. Police reports that speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash and it is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor. The residents of the two apartments have been temporarily displaced as a result of the incident, and the dollar amount of the structural damage was not disclosed.
