Cigarette break
Pham Trung Pham, 70, had stepped out the back door of his apartment on Kersey Street to smoke a cigarette at 4:55 p.m. on April 28 when he said five males rushed him, and made their way inside. The suspects, described as two white males with short hair and three black males with short hair, reportedly ordered Pham and 58-year-old The Huynh Thi at gunpoint to lie on the floor while the apartment was searched for valuables. The males reportedly left with an undetermined amount of valuables and other cash. Police request anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 336.373.1000.
Pistol whipping
Three unidentified men, described variously as wearing a camouflage bandanna, a black ski mask and a red bandanna covering one’s mouth, reportedly walked into the Citgo convenience store on Country Club Road in Winston-Salem at 11:24 p.m. on April 30. The first man was said to have gone to the register armed with a black handgun while his cohorts went to the back of the store and started stealing unknown merchandise. The first man reportedly demanded money from the storeowner, who refused, and then struck the owner twice with the weapon. The men then fled the store. Trunk fantasy
Jile Maness told Greensboro police officers at about 3 a.m. on May 2 that three black men forced him into the trunk of his car and drove him to an ATM, and then left him in the trunk at Groometown Road and Interstate 85 after he was unable to obtain any money for them. Hours later, Maness said, he was able to escape from the car.
The officers investigated the incident and concluded that Maness made the whole thing up. They charged Maness with filing a false police report, resist/delay, obstruct and felony stolen property.
Squeegee attack
Keith Byron Wagner, 49, said he was preparing to deliver newspapers at 600 Regional Road in Greensboro at 1:56 a.m. on May 1 when he was approached by 45-year-old William Edward Ruth, who demanded money from him. Wagner said he did not have any money, at which time Ruth reportedly advanced on him. Wagner said he brandished a knife to defend himself and Ruth fled, but not before throwing a squeegee at him. Ruth was later arrested and charged with robbery.
Nightclub fight
Aaron Joyner, a 22-year-old security guard at Club Menage on High Point Road in Greensboro reported that he got into a fight with four people, at about 2:23 a.m. on Sunday, when one of them struck him in the head with a glass bottle. In the midst of the fracas, Joyner was reportedly stabbed in the sternum and the abdomen. The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a white Lincoln Town Car and a green Honda. Joyner was taken to Moses Cone hospital for surgery, and police interviewed him at 9 a.m.
All for a cigarette
An
unknown black man, 20 years of age and described as “a regular visitor
to the business” reportedly walked in Tip Top Grocery on Summit Avenue
in Greensboro at about 6 p.m. on Sunday and asked the clerk for a
cigarette.
The clerk refused, and the man vowed to return.
About 10 minutes later, he returned with a handgun. The man reportedly
pointed the piece at the clerk, and a struggle ensued. The man
reportedly fired off two shots, and the clerk ran and hid in the
restroom. The man helped himself to an undisclosed amount of cash and
fled.
