Got to have my Newports

Greensboro police responded to an armed robbery call at the Emmanuel Curb Market in the 800 block of West Lee Street just after midnight on April 26. Upon arrival, witnesses informed officers that two armed men entered the market brandishing handguns demanding cigarettes and money from the cash register. The two suspects, described as between 5-9 and 5-11 in height, wearing dark hooded sweatshirts and blue jeans, fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and Newport cigarettes. No injuries were reported.

Drive-by shooting at Shell

Greensboro police are still investigating an alleged drive-by shooting at the Shell gas station located in the 500 block of North Elam Avenue at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival at Wesley Long Hospital, the victim told police that he was getting gas at the station when the man, described as being in his early twenties and driving a dark blue Ford Expedition, fired about three shots in the direction of the Shell station, and one of the rounds struck him in the upper right thigh. The victim took himself to the hospital, where he was treated and released. The police investigation is ongoing.

Home invasion reported

Steven Leon Evans of 2019 Phillips Ave. told Greensboro police he suffered a gunshot wound to the back of his head after a home invasion on Sunday. Evans told police that a female suspect knocked on his front door at approximately 11:30 p.m. She and two men broke into Evans’ apartment, pointed a small handgun and asked for money, Evans told police. After finding no cash in Evans’ apartment, one of the suspects allegedly threatened Evans’ life if he didn’t give them money.

After the victim didn’t produce money, the suspect, described as 5-8 and being in his late twenties, fired a shot at Evans, but he suffered only non-life threatening injuries in the incident. Evans said the female suspect, who is described as 5-11 in height with short hair, 40 years old, and answering to the name, “Nettie,” fled in a white minivan with the two. Arrest made in armed robbery

Rashad Devon Hampton is currently in Winston-Salem police custody after his arrest in connection with an armed robbery of the Three Girls Convenience Store in the 3800 block of Northampton Road on April 25. Hampton has been charged with armed robbery, fleeing to elude arrest and resisting arrest.

Hampton is being held at the Forsyth County Jail under $100,000 secured bond. According to police reports, the suspects, who were wearing bandanas covering their faces, entered the store through the front door, brandished a firearm and demanded money.

The clerk was unable to open the register and the suspects grabbed the register and ran from the business. The suspects fled from the scene in a vehicle that was parked nearby. A vehicle pursuit initiated by police followed the robbery. The chase ended when Hampton was involved in an accident at the intersection of New Walkertown Road and Dellabrook Road, where the suspects fled from the scene. Cpl. CS Sloan and officer JT Henry apprehended Hampton after a brief foot pursuit. Other officers circulated the area and set up a perimeter in an attempt to locate the second suspect but with no success.

The stolen cash register was located in the suspect vehicle. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department or CrimeStoppers at 336.727.2800.

WMD case leads to arrest

Reginald Leander Gilmore Jr., 19, is currently in Winston-Salem police custody after being arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in connection with an incident on April 24. Gilmore has also been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, discharging a firearm into an occupied property and communicating threats. After arrest, he was transported to Forsyth County Jail, where he has been placed under $200,000 secured bond. Police responded to a shooting call in the 1100 block of Cameron Avenue on April 24. The victim, Jaquec Golden, told police he was walking along North Cameron Avenue when he became involved in a verbal altercation with Gilmore before he was assaulted. As Golden attempted to leave, Gilmore retrieved a gun and discharged it several times outside his residence, according to police reports. One of the rounds entered Golden’s vehicle and struck him on the right side of his back. Golden was then driven to Forsyth Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
