I’ve just decided to designate the upcoming Cats Cradle (catscradle.com) show as a dance party on Friday, though it was probably inevitable that the boogie would break out at some point in the evening anyway, with indie-electro-fun groups like Matador’s Jaguar Love (www.takebacktheradworld.com) and Kill Rock Stars’ Shy Child (www.myspace.com/shychildmusic) on display. Jaguar Love recently put out a pop-friendly rock-mixed release Take Me to the Sea for kicks, and it landed them a spot on this tour. The big name of the evening, from here to London, is none other than Omaha’s the Faint (www.myspace.com/thefaint). I know what you’re thinking: What kind of rock comes from Nebraska? Their label, Blank.wav, just put out Fasciination, yet another attempt to top their most-popular career topper Wet From Birth from 2004. But don’t worry; I’d expect new and old songs performed this evening.

It seems like when shows are going on in the Triad, it’s very often Greensboro’s doing, but by now you’ve hopefully had a chance to check out Summer On Trade in downtown Winston-Salem. If you haven’t, fear not: Saturday night you’ll get another chance (www.dwsp.org/music). The local arts district is located on 6th and Trade streets, and this weekend’s performance will make your night on the town worth it. The bo-stevens (myspace.com/thebostevens) will be taking the stage along with strings of guitar, mandolins, percussion and all sorts of honky-tonk country for an ideal Southern evening. Members Richard Boyd, Greg Bell, Jeff Shu, Billie Feather and the Rev. Douglas Hawkins keep the band alive in Winston — what a great opportunity for a hometown show. Lookin to dance with a little jive? The bo-stevens admit to playing with a hint of rockabilly, just to add a little something to their overall projection. Pick up their album at www.cdbaby.com. The show is at 7 p.m., and an exemplary family event, because — yes — it’s all ages!

Let’s skip ahead a few days. It’s always hard to put a forecast on a Tuesday or Wednesday, because it’s when our weekly comes out — so this tidbit is dedicated to the beginning of our publcation week. Tuesday evening Greene Street (www.greenestreetclub.com) contains an exquisite line up from not one, not two, but four touring bands from all over the nation. Opening the weekday evening at 6 p.m. is Pittsburgh’s alternative pop princes, the Morning Light (www.myspace.com/themorninglight). Following them, the double-contract band from Las Vegas with members from Decaydance and Fueled By Ramen (wow, what a sweet deal that was!), the Cab (www.thecabrock.com). These guys bring a similar soul-dance-pop set to the lights as the Morning Light (and at a Carrboro show earlier in the week, Jaguar Love). I’m not entirely sure how these dates were put together with what seems like two headliners of the evening: Steel Train (www.myspace.com/steeltrain) and the Hush Sound (www.thehushsound.com). Did I mention the name of the tour is called the Dance Across The Country tour? Take a hint and bring your sweatbands. You might remember Steel Train from a past tour with Limbeck and Greensboro’s own House of Fools — don’t pass up this conveniently early show for your weekday night, no excuses!
