GREENSBORO
Greetings Greensboro gallery hoppers, it is once again time to connect you with all the fun and frivolity planned for First Friday. Several events caught my eye this month and this Gallery Hop looks to be quite a vibrant one indeed.
First off, I want to point out a change in location for the Yew Tree Gallery, which is moving one block south to 604 S. Elm St., across from the new Mellow Mushroom. The gorgeous new digs afford the group of member artists more breathing room in an expanded space. Stop in to view what’s new at the Yew Tree and congratulate them on the success of their relocation.
There’s always plenty going on at the Cultural Arts Center on Davie Street but this month the opening at The Center for Visual Art seems quite intriguing. The Golf Show may or may not be up your alley, but an art installation featuring putt-putt holes that visitors can actually play for a small donation sounds like good fun to me. Additionally, if you are a fan of golf, you might also enjoy golf-related artwork in a variety of media from Center for Visual Art member artists also on display.
Finally, I continually find myself feeling inspired by the excellence of work showing at Ambleside Gallery. March is certain to prove no exception with a show titled Watercolor at its Best. The group show offers works by artists based in both the US and a number of other spots on the globe including Moldova, the United Kingdom and China. The aptly named Ambleside is a great place to peruse at a leisurely pace, so relax to tunes from the grand player piano while allowing your eyes to caress offerings of the best.
• Ambleside Gallery (528 S. Elm St.): Hosting a new group show Watercolor at its Best which features works by Ion Carchalan (Moldova), David Easton (UK), Sterling Edwards (US), Leslie Frontz (US). Nigel Price (UK) and Guan Weixing (China).
• Artmongerz (610 S. Elm St.): Specializing in found-object art by Artmongerz owner Frank Russell, and showing new works in all artist studios by member artists for Gallery Hop.

The Guilford Native American Gallery will be open with authentic Native American arts and crafts, jewelry and pottery. The Center for Visual Artists offers The Golf Show in which one featured artist made putt-putt holes, that visitors will actually be able to play for a small donation, as well as golf related artwork in all media from CVA member artists.
• Gate City Yarns (231 S. Elm St.): Gate City Yarns will hold spinning and weaving demonstrations during First Friday.

• Lyndon Street Artworks (205 Lyndon St.): The warehouse houses more than 40 local artists in their working studios. For this First Friday, the following artists will feature: Antidotes and Potions by potter Mariana Rodriguez- Pardy. Alunda of AromaAdonai is a special guest of Lyndon Street Artworks for First Friday in March. Alunda is a certified aromatherapist demonstrating the creation of aromatherapy
blends. Cass Catlett will be demonstrating her flowing watercolor techniques on the stage. Lida
Witherspoon is showing musically inspired paintings. Karen Bjork

• Winter Light Gallery (410 Blandwood Ave.): Winter Light Gallery and art studios will offer Open Studio Tours 6-9 p.m. The gallery is home to 13 artists, painters and photographers. The studio is at corner of Blandwood and Spring Garden streets.
• Yew Tree Gallery (604 S. Elm St.) It’s an especially exciting month for Yew Tree Gallery as they open in a new space. See the expanded, gorgeous new gallery and exceptional original fine art. Now showing watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels and pottery. Offering gourmet refreshments for Gallery Hop and a chance to meet some of the 19 artists. A silent auction of two original paintings by Chuck McLachlan is under way.
WINSTON-SALEM

fun awaiting you on the First Friday of this month. March’s hop
brightens with a promise of great new shows as well as a brand-new
gallery space! The Arts District can now add a picture framing shop

Shesh Tantry, who at this time is working in abstract landscapes and
abstracts in general, mainly in oils and acrylics.
May
I be the first, but not the last, to extend a welcome to our new
neighbor? Also with cause to celebrate this month are two studios who
just happen to be next-door neighbors. The Studios at 625 are
celebrating their 10-year anniversary in style with music, refreshments
and interactive art projects going on for First Friday. Hop on over to
Atelier Studios and see what’s new as they navigate the waters under
new management with some nicely reorganized studio space.

be happy to clue you in to their newly decided upon event schedule as
well. Atelier Studio is well known for the unsurpassed fun of their
themed Gallery Hop events! Over at Artists on Liberty you’ll find Transformational Environments by
Jennifer Wynn O’Kelly. O’Kelly is an artist of unique perspective who
also works as a scenic designer, lighting designer and art director.
She
weaves her love of archeology and anthropology into this exhibition as
well, which allows for imagination, magic and facts in equal measure
within these works. She adeptly creates an environment for a story that
affords the viewer the chance to make mental journeys into the world of
each painting.
