It’s a tough week for live music in the Triad, with many acts stuck in between seasonal tours. It’s slim pickings for the most part, but there are a few gems to be dug out for the savvy concert goer. Nu-metalers Senses Fail head up a bill that includes Far Less, Left on Cates and Burn the Fields this Wednesday at Greensboro’s Greene Street Club. Punk-rockabilly legend Dexter Romweber headlines the Blind Tiger with his big sister Sara on Thursday. See the Artist of the Week column for a full blown story on this one. The Malamondos and Silver Bullet come along in support. DJ SK spins retro-style at 6th & Vine in Winston-Salem if you can’t make. If you thought live music was dead at the Lawrence Joel Veteran’s Memorial, well you’d still be right.

They got nothin’…again. Oca, Return to Life, A Light Divided and From This Day provide your Friday night metal fix at the Somewhere Else Tavern. 8088 drops a brand new CD at the Maya Art Gallery with A is Jump, Harmute and Workday/Schoolnight tagging along for kicks and giggles.

Hip-hop funksters the Urban Sophisticates gig with the Movement and J Timber at Greene Street on Friday night. If Greene isn’t you color, then check out the Blind Tiger on Friday for the Jeff Sipe Band. The acclaimed drummer has performed with Keller Williams, Phil Lesh and Leftover Salmon, as well as recording several rather insane experimental live albums with Jonas Hellborg and Shawn Lane.

The Seventh Annual Cash Bash descends on the Garage in Winston-Salem and will span Friday and Saturday night. Check out my music forecast for greater detail, but it will most assuredly be another killer weekend.

K.E.G., Hell Fire Mafia, Calamity Jane and Fight for a Pacifist reign down the holy thunder down on the SoundVent in Thomasville this Saturday. The masterful Sam Robinson brings his axe to Foothills Brewing in Winston-Salem.

Hopefully, you didn’t miss his show with former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle a few weeks ago. Also on Saturday, jam-fusionists the Mantras take over the Tiger, while the old timey sounds of Milltown and Upright n’ Breathin’ permeate the Flatiron in Greensboro. Pinche Gringo and the Strugglers rock out the Green Bean in downtown Greensboro. I imagine that many will be able to relate with the latter some Sunday Morning.

Nothing makes me think of beach music more than the bitter cold of the waning winter months, which is why seeing the Chairmen of the Board at the Carolina Theatre on Saturday sounds just so darn appealing. General Johnson and company invite all the Carolina girls to show why they’re the best in the world. Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs will come along in support.
