W-S suffers first homicide of 2009
On Jan. 11, Winston-Salem police officers responded to shooting call at 803 Utah Drive and arrived to find three victims — Jose Luis Guzman, Valentin Francisco Organis, and Antonio Adolfo Hernandez. Guzman was transported to Baptist Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. It was Winston-Salem’s first homicide of 2009. Organis and Hernandez were treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.

Bingo and More robbed
On Jan. 9, the Bingo and More store, located at 2212 Randleman Road in Greensboro, was robbed by two male suspects in their 20s. The suspects entered the business brandishing a handgun and demanding money, stole an undisclosed amount of money, and fled on foot towards Savannah Street, according to police reports.

Lorillard Federal Credit
Union robbed at gunpoint
On Jan. 9, Greensboro police responded to an armed robbery call at the Lorillard Federal Credit Union, located at 2917 S. Elm-Eugene St. Police reports indicate that two male suspects entered the credit union and one of the suspects produced a note demanding money while the other suspect acted as a lookout. Both suspects, who are described to be 5-7 to 5-8 in height with medium builds, were last seen leaving the credit union with an undisclosed amount of money and headed towards Home Depot.

Unpleasant homecoming
On Jan. 8, Winston-Salem police arrested Cedric Crockett, 16, in connection with a housebreaking incident in the 500 block of Kinard Drive.
Homeowner Othiel Dobson informed police that he returned home around 4:30 p.m. to find three young males near the back of his residence. He then observed one of the young men coming ut of his window. They
ran in different directions, but Dobson managed to detain Crockett. The
investigation into the identity of the other two suspects is ongoing.
Drive-by shooting in Winston
On Jan. 7, Pernell Eugene Marshall told Winston-Salem police he was the victim of a drive-by shooting in the 400 block of Huff Circle. Marshall said he was walking along Huff Circle when an unidentified black male in a dark colored SUV began shooting at him and Marshall was struck in the arm by a bullet. Marshall told police there were two other suspects in the vehicle. Marshall was treated and released at a medical facility for a nonlife threatening injury, according to police reports.
